7 Steps to Building Courage

7 Steps to Building Courage

We’re all faced with fear, self-doubt, insecurities and uncertainty.

To be courageous means facing these challenges and doing what needs to get done despite them.

It is a trait possessed by every great leader, athlete and entrepreneur, past and present.

To reach our potential requires us to do things that make us feel uncomfortable.

Life will corner you, punch you in the face, and give you all that you can handle.

It is up to each of us to develop the courage to withstand whatever life throws our way.

Here are 7 steps you can use to be more courageous and do what needs to get done.

  1. Be Objective
Most of us know what we need to do and what is holding us back. But we choose to put the blinders up because it is hard to look at our faults. To acknowledge your faults takes courage. Take a hard look at your habits and consider a few that are holding you back and preventing you from being the best version of yourself. To identify your fears gives you a chance to overcome them. To find your weaknesses is the first step to breaking them.

  2. Be Confident in Yourself
Now that you’ve been able to take a hard look at your faults, you need to believe in yourself. It should be a goal in your life to continue to progress daily and become a better version of yourself. That starts with self-confidence. Have faith in yourself. Remember, when you were born, you couldn’t even hold your head up by yourself. Look at how far you’ve come. No matter what life has thrown your way, you're still standing here today. Don’t ever doubt your skills and abilities. You are always capable of more. You can overcome anything.

  3. Have a Desire and Willingness to Change
Things aren’t going to get better unless you are willing to make a change. You have to DECIDE that you are ready to make a change. Whatever you want to pursue, whether it's being a better father, overcoming a fear, getting healthier, building a business, or pursuing your dreams, it all starts with a decision. Decide exactly what you want to accomplish.

  4. Make a Plan
Now you need to plan exactly what you need to do to get to where you want to go. Write it down! There are things that you are going to have to do (or stop doing) to get what you want.  95% of the world does not plan where they want to go in life. The 5% that do are some of the most successful people in the world. Start planning where you want to go so you have a chance to get there.

  5. Take Action
Once you have a roadmap of what you need to do, it’s time to start taking action. As Tony Robbins said “Knowledge is only potential power, action is power.” You’ve got your road map. Now it’s time to actually get on the road and start moving towards your ideal life. Overcome the fear of trying something new. Each day you take action brings you one step closer to your goal.

  6. Fight Through failure
Things will not always go as planned. You're making a change in your life and travelling into new territory. Be ready to face obstacles, struggle, and fail. Don’t get discouraged! Every time a baby falls, they get one step closer to learning how to walk. Keep plucking away no matter what gets in your way and you will persevere.

  7. Never be Satisfied
It takes courage to get outside of your comfort zone and do things you’ve never done. But that is the only way to reach your potential. Once you reach your goals, find another way to level up in life. There is always room to grow and be better. Never settle. Keep moving forward.

Here’s the reality.

It’s hard to face your demons, to chase your dreams, to change your habits.

It’s hard to act when you’re scared, to do things that most people wouldn’t dare try and to stand up for what you believe in.

hard to try new things and step into the unknown.

But what’s the alternative?

A life of what if’s. A life of wasted potential. A life of regret.

That’s not you.

You are courageous and you do what needs to get done.
